The University of Redlands women's soccer team came up short on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, 0-1.  Despite garnering a number of close opportunities, the Bulldogs could not convert, resulting in the tough one-goal defeat.

Redlands fell behind early, surrendering a goal in the fifth minute of play when Allie Tao scored off of an assist from Julia Dohner.

The Bulldogs almost tied the game midway through the first half when sophomore midfielder Summer Norquist (Boise, ID) had a shot saved and then cleared off the line.

By halftime, the score remained 1-0 in favor of the Sagehens, with Pomona-Pitzer holding the shot advantage, 7-5, while the corner-kick battle was even at 4-4.

The Bulldogs pushed forward in the second stanza, looking for the equalizer, and came close when senior midfielder Lihini Weerasinghe (Redlands, CA) got behind the Sagehens' defense and ripped a shot, but the ball was saved once again, keeping the score a 1-0.  Later in the second half, the U of R had an open look from about 15 yards away from goal, but the shot sailed high and out of play.

The Bulldogs outshot the Sagehens (13-2-1, 11-2-0 SCIAC) in the final 45 minutes, 6-4, but could not find the finishing touch en route to the one-goal loss.  For the match, the Maroon and Gray also held the advantage in corner kicks, 7-6.

Sophomore midfielder Savannah Laursen (Boise, ID) led the attack for Redlands, racking up four shots, while junior forward Tanya Haggen (Bellingham, WA) notched two shots in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) contest.

The U of R (6-9-3, 5-6-2 SCIAC) returns to action on Saturday evening when it hosts Occidental College (4-10-2, 3-9-1 SCIAC) at Farquhar Field.  Kickoff on Senior Night is scheduled for 7 p.m.
