While gaining contributions from 24 different players, the University of Redlands women's soccer team put together a dominant performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Leopards of the University of La Verne, 2-0.  The win was Redlands' second of the week and propelled the squad into a tie for fourth place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings.

Despite outshooting the Leopards in the first half, 16-5, the Bulldogs could not find the back of the net.  Part of that was due to La Verne junior goalkeeper Delanie Pacheco (Chino, CA) making save after save, notching seven during the first 45 minutes.  On the day, she totaled 13 saves.  The crossbar also kept the Maroon and Gray off of the scoreboard during the first stanza, as on four different occasions, Bulldog players hit shots off of the crossbar.

Not fazed by the score still being level at 0-0, the U of R continued to push in search of the all-important first goal of the match.  That score finally came in the 75th minute when sophomore midfielder Savannah Laursen (Boise, ID) slipped a beautiful through ball past the Leopards' defense, and freshman midfielder Kate Frame (Fox Island, WA) ran onto the nicely-weighted pass and buried her shot into the back of the net.  For Frame, it was her first-ever goal while donning a Bulldog uniform.

Laursen ended all doubts that Redlands would win the game when she stepped up to take a penalty kick in the 81st minute.  She made no mistake, converting the opportunity and doubling the U of R advantage.

Not only was the offense firing on all cylinders on the afternoon, but the Bulldog defense played fantastic as well, earning the shutout.  Senior goalkeeper Sabrina Grandke-Bawab (Kirkland, WA) and sophomore goalkeeper Lexi Felix (Kailua, HI) combined to go the full 90 minutes while maintaining the shutout for Redlands.

After the match, Head Coach Suzette Soboti talked about the team's phenomenal performance.

On the day, Redlands outshot La Verne, 30-9, and tallied four corner kicks to just one for the Leopards.

Laursen and senior midfielder Lihini Weerasinghe (Redlands, CA) led the way offensively for the Bulldogs, each racking up five shots.  In addition, freshman midfielder McKenzie Oliger (Seattle, WA) and sophomore forward Jennifer Franklin (Seattle, WA) provided the U of R with four shots apiece.

Redlands (4-7-3, 4-4-2 SCIAC) returns to action on Monday when it takes on the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz at Farquhar Field.  Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
