While playing in its sixth overtime contest of the 2013 campaign, the University of Redlands women's soccer team tied with Occidental College on Wednesday night, 0-0.  With the completion of tonight's game, every team in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) is now halfway through its conference schedule.

Redlands began the game well, racking up a number of shots during the opening portion of the match.  The Bulldogs also recorded a slew of corner kicks during the first 45 minutes, totaling six in all.  Despite the multitude of chances, Redlands could not find the back of the net, leaving the game scoreless at the break.

The U of R outshot Occidental (3-5-2, 2-4-1 SCIAC) during the first half, 8-3, and tallied six corner kicks to zero for the Tigers.

The Maroon and Gray continued to apply the pressure during the second stanza, but still, the Tigers' defense held strong and did not allow a goal, forcing the contest to overtime.

Trying desperately to find the game-winner, Redlands searched for the break-through in the extra periods, but it would not come, resulting in the scoreless draw.

On the night, the U of R outshot Occidental, 17-4, while dominating in the corner-kick department as well, 11-1.  Bulldog senior midfielder Lihini Weerasinghe (Redlands, CA) led the attack for Redlands, registering four shots, while sophomore midfielder Savannah Laursen (Boise, ID) provided three, including two on frame.

The Maroon and Gray defense continued to show how strong it is, allowing just the four shots during the match, with only two going on goal.  Moreover, during the second half, the Bulldogs did not allow one shot.

Senior goalkeeper Sabrina Grandke-Bawab (Kirkland, WA) played the first half for the Bulldogs, communicating with the defense effectively while notching two saves on the night.  Sophomore goalkeeper Lexi Felix (Kailua, HI) came on in the second stanza and sustained the shutout through the overtimes.

Redlands (2-6-3, 2-3-2 SCIAC) returns to the pitch on Saturday afternoon when it takes on Cal Lutheran University at 1 p.m. in Thousand Oaks.
