Bulldog freshman midfielder McKenzie Oliger (Seattle, WA) scored her first career goal for the University of Redlands women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon, but it was not enough, as the Maroon and Gray fell to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, 1-2.  Despite outshooting the Sagehens on the afternoon, the Bulldogs could not find the finishing-touch enough to earn the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) win.

Pomona-Pitzer struck early, scoring on their first opportunity of the game in the 4th minute when senior midfielder Allie Tao (Alamo, CA) crossed the ball to junior midfielder Nicole Quilliam (Menlo Park, CA) who put her shot into the back of the net.

Redlands equalized through Oliger in the 37th minute, however, via a powerful strike.  On the play, sophomore forward Jennifer Franklin (Seattle, WA) slotted a through ball to Oliger who took a touch and then ripped a left-footed shot into the upper-right corner of the goal.

By the half, Redlands had outshot Pomona-Pitzer, 7-3, and also held the slight edge in corner kicks, 1-0.

In the second stanza, the Bulldogs looked for the go-ahead goal, but it would not come.  The Sagehens nabbed the game-winner in the 72nd minute when Quilliam pounced on a deflection and hit a shot past Bulldog sophomore goalkeeper Lexi Felix (Kailua, HI) to give Pomona-Pitzer (7-1-1, 5-1-0 SCIAC) the one goal advantage.

That score would hold as the U of R tried to find the equalizer late, but could not, resulting in the defeat for the Bulldogs.

On the afternoon, the Maroon and Gray outshot the Sagehens, 12-8, with freshman midfielder Erin Lau (Reno, NV) leading the way and racking up four shots off the bench.  In addition, sophomore midfielder Savannah Laursen (Boise, ID) registered three shots.

The U of R (2-6-2, 2-3-1 SCIAC) takes to the road on Wednesday, October 9, to play Occidental College at 7 p.m.  Be sure to follow all of the action through live stats and video!
