The University of Redlands women's soccer team registered a solid win on Saturday evening, topping the Whittier College Poets on the road, 3-1.  With the triumph, the Bulldogs move to .500 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play.

Redlands junior forward Tanya Haggen (Bellingham, WA) got things started early in the first half, launching a shot from way out into the back of the net for her first-ever goal while donning a Bulldog uniform.  The score in the 7th minute gave the U of R the early momentum and set the table for what would come.

Sophomore midfielder Savannah Laursen (Boise, ID) doubled the lead in the 21st minute for Redlands, notching her second goal of the campaign in the process.

The Poets fought back and responded 10 minutes later, scoring a goal of their own to halve the deficit.  Immediately after the Whittier score, however, Redlands went down the field and Bulldog junior midfielder Kristen Arroyo (San Diego, CA) tallied her first goal of the year to extend the lead back to two scores.

By halftime, the score was still in Redlands' favor, 3-1, and the Bulldogs had outshot the Poets during the first 45 minutes, 11-4.

The Maroon and Gray would not need any more offensive insurance, as the defense shutdown all Whittier attacks during the second stanza en route to the two-goal victory.

On the night, Redlands outshot Whittier, 18-9, and tallied two corner kicks to none for the Poets.  Bulldog sophomore midfielder Cassie Lively (Redmond, WA) registered a team-high five shots, while Laursen provided four.

U of R senior goalkeeper Sabrina Grandke-Bawab (Kirkland, WA) earned the win, making two saves during the first 45 minutes, while sophomore goalkeeper Lexi Felix (Kailua, HI) played fantastic in the second half, registering four saves.

The Maroon and Gray (2-5-1, 2-2-0 SCIAC) returns to action on Wednesday, October 2, when it hosts Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Breast Cancer Awareness Night.  Kickoff at Farquhar Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
