The University of Redlands women's soccer program opened up the 2013 campaign in Wheaton, IL, on Friday, falling to Carleton College (MN) by a score of 0-1.  Despite out-shooting the Knights, 9-4, the Bulldogs could not find the back of the net, resulting in the one-goal defeat.

The Maroon and Gray played flawless defense in the first half, not even allowing a shot, while tallying three shots of its own on the offensive end of the field.

Both teams traded chances during the first 30 minutes of the second stanza, but Carleton found the breakthrough first, scoring a goal in the 79th minute of play.

Over the final 11 minutes, Redlands garnered a couple of good looks at goal, but neither beat the Knights' goalkeeper.

The Bulldog sophomore tandem of defender Sam Keary (Mission Viejo, CA) and midfielder Izzy Baez (Zionsville, IN) led the way offensively, registering two shots apiece.

Senior goalkeeper Sabrina Grandke-Bawab (Kirkland, WA) played the first half for the U of R, leading the team from the back and helping to communicate defensively.  In the second stanza, freshman goalkeeper Lexi Felix (Kailua, HI) saw her first-ever collegiate action between the pipes for Redlands.

The Bulldogs take on third-ranked Wheaton College (IL) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. PST.  Fans may follow the exciting showdown through web-streaming and live stats at http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/wheaton.portal#.
