Bulldog Women’s Lacrosse Rocks Cal Lutheran 18-1

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team handed California Lutheran University Wednesday night an 18-1 loss putting together their most lopsided game this season.

Redlands improves to 4-6, 3-3 SCIAC, ending their two-game losing skid, winning four of their last six and putting them into a tie for 3rd within the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings.

It was a shutout across the first three quarters for the Maroon and Grey taking a 13-0 lead into the final period.  They would then go on to outscore the Regals 5-1 over the final 15:00 minutes to cruise to the win.

Four Bulldogs registered multiple goals in the game led by freshman Erin Steinhour (Poway, CA) who finished with four goals on seven shots along with an assist, five groundballs, and a caused turnover.  Celine Flaig (Redondo Beach, CA) completed a hat trick with an assist, while causing a pair of turnovers, while Sasha Charrier (Austin, TX) and Maeve Wiencek (Sherwood, OR) would each post two goals apiece.  Senior Sydney Louie (Lafayette, CA) also had a trick but with three assists and a goal.  She also added two groundballs, four draw controls, and a caused turnover.  Senior Joren Fettig (Bend, OR) also provided a strong game in her third contest back from injury and put up a goal and four assists.  

Freshman Abigail Gordon (Germantown, MD) had a strong stat line with a goal on two shots along with four groundballs, a draw control, and two caused turnovers.

The Maroon and Grey led from start to finish with six goals coming in the opening quarter, two of which came from Wiencek, one coming off a free position.  The lead grew to 12-0 after another six goal effort in the 2nd Quarter, this time Steinhour going back-to-back, which included converting a powerplay opportunity. 

Steinhour used another advantage in the 3rd Quarter to extend the UR lead to 13-0.  Then in the 4th Quarter five different Bulldogs would find the back of the net, including Louie, Fettig, Kaitlyn Lesko (Buford, GA), Nina Davis (Bainbridge island, WA), and Casey Lynch (Pittsburgh, PA).          

Charlie Baum (Hesperia, CA) was untested in goal facing just two shots across the 60:00 minutes.  She finished with one save and two groundballs.

The Bulldogs held the advantage in every offensive category 45-3 (Shots), Draw Controls (17-6), Free-Position Goals (3-for-7), Clears (7-for-8), Groundballs (26-13), and Caused Turnovers (13-4).      

Redlands returns to the field this Saturday, April 9 remaining on the road with a big SCIAC showdown with Occidental College beginning at 11:00am.  The last time these two teams met the Bulldogs won 14-13 in OT.
