REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team showed their grit and tenacity Saturday night in their first win of 2022, erasing a five-goal deficit against Whittier College to win 11-7.

The Maroon and Grey move to 1-4, 1-2 SCIAC and build some momentum entering this week's match-ups.

After being held scoreless across the first twenty minutes and finding themselves down 5-0 the Bulldogs went on a run that spanned almost fifteen minutes as they outscored the Poets 6-0 to go in front for the first time.  Right before the half Sydney Louie (Lafayette, CA) went back to back to start the comeback and Celine Flaig (Redondo Beach, CA) converted at the 2:54 mark to make it a two-score game at intermission.

Out of the break UR kept the momentum with three straight across the opening five minutes.  Flaig started the scoring off on the Bulldogs first possession cutting the deficit to one and Alison Waddles (Long Beach, CA) and Maeve Wiencek (Sherwood, OR) would follow both capitalizing on extra-person opportunities.  Whittier ended the run at the 9:19 mark thanks to Kiedra Hall, but it wouldn't stop the offensive juggernaut as UR would string together four in a row and five of the final six tallies of the game.  Maddie Bush (Ladera Ranch, CA) put Redlands back on top off a feed from Louie and Wiencek would move the advantage to two right before the final period.

It was all Maroon and Grey in the fourth quarter outscoring Whittier 3-1.  Louie and Flaig went back to back to start off the frame and Erin Steinhour (Poway, CA) would throw the final blow converting with just :06 seconds left in the game coming on an extra person advantage.

After being outscored in the first quarter 3-0 Redlands put together a nice response outscoring Whittier 11-4 across the final three periods.

Redlands outshot Whittier 29-18, with 11 of them coming in the third quarter.  The Bulldogs also picked up 29 groundballs, were 13-for-18 on clear attempts, and forced 28 Poet turnovers.

Charlie Baum (Hesperia, CA) picked up her first collegiate win finishing with four saves against 11 shots.  She also had five groundballs and a caused turnover.  Louie led the offense with three goals, two assists, two groundballs, and two caused turnovers.  Flaig added a hat trick along with an assist, six groundballs and three caused turnovers and Bush chipped in with a goal and an assist.

Redlands has a quick turn around as they welcome in Worcester State on Monday, March 14 beginning at 7:00pm.
