Redlands Women’s Lacrosse Cruises to 18-9 Victory over Carthage

The University of Redlands women's lacrosse team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead off of back-to-back scores by sophomore attack player Crystal Painter (Lake George, NY) en route to a resounding 18-9 victory against Carthage College (WI) in Sewanee, TN. Painter joined forces with sophomore attack player Aimee Dewan (Alamo, CA) for eight of their team's goals to lead the Bulldogs to their third consecutive victory of the 2011 season.

Redlands garnered a 4-1 lead nearly 15 minutes into the opening frame but then the Lady Reds closed within one goal just four minutes later. A quick Bulldog adjustment inspired four straight goals through the final 95 seconds of the half to make it 9-4. During this stretch, junior attack player Blair Callaghan (Tacoma, WA) found the back of the net on two occasions.

Up 9-5 at the start of the second stanza, the Maroon and Gray unleashed six unanswered scores by a half dozen different players to secure a 10-goal lead with nearly 19 minutes left in the game. Among these, freshman midfielder Ally Leipzig (Newton, MA) recorded her first collegiate score.

Carthage rallied for four goals to Redlands' three in the final minutes, but the Bulldogs remained well ahead for the victory.

Sophomore defender Kelsey Cranmer-Brown (Palo Alto, CA) and freshman defender Emma Pierce (Portland, OR) each picked up three ground balls, while junior midfielder Megan Prickett (Poway, CA) forced three Carthage turnovers.

Freshman midfielder Jacky Craycraft (Lake Forest, CA) provided a solid performance with six draw controls, two goals and one assist.

Junior goalkeeper Ana Martinez (Pleasanton, CA) earned the victory with four saves in just over 43 minutes of action.

Redlands out-shot the Lady Reds, 37-19, while also nabbing five more draw controls (17-12).

The Bulldogs (3-0) take on Sewanee at 8 a.m. on Saturday, before returning home to California.
