U of R Women's Golf Hauls in Top All-Conference Awards

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced the 2021 Women's Golf All-Conference awards earlier today, naming University of Redlands' sophomore Hannah Jugar (Chula Vista, CA) the Athlete of the Year.  In addition, first-year Gabrielle Kiger (Hermosa Beach, CA) represented the Bulldogs as the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year, while junior Malia Kiger (Hermosa Beach, CA) and junior Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) also earned a spot on the All-Conference Team.  Finally, Head Coach Jack Stewart and Assistant Coach Keilee Bessho were named the SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year.

While leading the Maroon and Gray to the SCIAC Championship Tournament title, Jugar captured medalist honors at every conference event this year.  She fired off an impressive round of 67 to start SCIAC Tournament #1 and then finished the final round of the conference season with a 74.  She earned a seven-round average of 73.57.

G. Kiger made her presence known throughout the pandemic-shortened season with the Bulldogs en route to receiving the Newcomer of the Year award.  She took third at SCIAC Tournament #1 with a pair of 73s and later tied-for-fifth at the SCIAC Championships with a 54-hole total of 237 (79-85-73).  Overall, she posted an average score of 77.57 in conference competition.

M. Kiger produced consistent scores during each tournament, earning second place with a pair of 71s at the opening event and finishing third with back-to-back 77s at SCIAC Tournament #2.  During the conference championships, she tallied a fifth-place score of 239 (79-80-80) to cap off her seven-round average of 76.43.

Finally, Nicholson repeats as an All-SCIAC honoree, following a stellar 2019 season that resulted in her being named the SCIAC Newcomer and Athlete of the Year.  During the 2021 campaign, she put together an average score of 78.11 over seven conference rounds.  Her best finish came at the SCIAC Championships, where she came in second place by tallying a 232 (81-75-76).

Stewart and Bessho guided the Redlands women's golf team to victories in every outing, both in and out of conference, while helping the squad hold onto its No. 1 ranking in NCAA Division III throughout the season.
