No. 7 Redlands Women's Golf Selected for NCAA Championships in Houston

It was announced earlier today that the No. 7 University of Redlands women's golf team has been selected to compete in the 2016 NCAA Division III Championships as one of four at-large squads among the 21 team qualifiers.  The Bulldogs look forward to traveling to Houston, Texas, for four rounds of competition at the Bay Oaks Country Club on May 10-13.  The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Harris County-Houston Sports Authority will serve as hosts of the event.

After winning back-to-back Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) titles, Redlands advances to its second-consecutive NCAA Championships.

Sophomore Caroline Ordian (Palm Desert, CA) paces all of NCAA Division III with her adjusted scoring average of 74.60, according to GolfStat.  After improving from third to first, she most recently captured medalist honors at the 2016 SCIAC Championship Tournament by firing off rounds of 77-75-72 for a total of 224 for eight-over par.  Overall, she led the field with nine birdies while recording 30 pars over the 54 holes.

Senior Amberlynn Dorsey (Highland, CA) currently ranks ninth in the nation with an adjusted scoring average of 78.38.  During the SCIAC Championships, she finished second, just two strokes behind Ordian, after leading the opening round with a score of 73.

Juniors Kari Gordon (Culver City, CA) and Raquel Gordon (Culver City, CA) enter the upcoming national championships with respective averages of 82.64 and 83.01, while junior Jenna Durette (Oceanside, CA) adds quality fire power as the Bulldogs' fifth competitor.

Redlands is the sole representative of the SCIAC and one of four schools from the West Region, including No. 2 George Fox University (OR), the No. 4 University of Texas – Tyler, and No. 6 Whitman College (WA).

Last season, Redlands finished eighth at its first-ever national tournament, with Ordian tying for fourth in the individual standings.  The Bulldogs strive to improve upon that showing with another year of high-quality experience under their belts.
