REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball Team is set to host the 2021 Bulldog-Panther Classic this weekend inside Currier Gym, Friday-Saturday, November 19-20.

The field will include the University of Redlands, Chapman University, Willamette University, and Wheaton College (Ill.).

The Field

University of Redlands (1-0, 0-0 SCIAC)

The Bulldogs, the 2019-20 reigning SCIAC Champions come in 1-0 with a 75-61 win over Linfield University.  In that game four of five starters reached double figures led by Senior Alyssa Downs (South San Francisco, CA) who put up 20 points.  She was joined by senior Chyanne Pagkalinawan (Valencia, CA) who added 14 points with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals, junior Angelina Roque (San Diego, CA) who totaled 14 points with five boards, three assists and three steals, and senior Hannah Jerrier (Canton, MA) who was one rebound shy of a double double with 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals, while going 4-of-7 from the field.

Jerrier was also named the SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week as she leads a team shooting 37.3% from the field, 36.8% from three-point territory, and 51.4% from the free-throw line.  The Bulldogs have the length and prove tough defensively, averaging 12 APG, 40 RPG, and 12 SPG.                 

Chapman University (1-1, 0-0 SCIAC)

The Panthers have played limited games this season currently holding a 1-1 record, which includes a win against Linfield University (75-55).  They are averaging 66.5 points per game, while shooting 35.5% from the field, 24.2% from deep, and 71.1% from the free-throw line.  They average 33 RPG and 19 APG.  But where their strength lies is the press where they average 13.5 SPG.

Chapman relies on their three seniors Brittany McPherson who is averaging 18.5 PPG, while shooting 55.2% from the field.  Julianna Campas has provided a 13 PPG average and is deadly at the charity stripe shooting 85.7% and Orel Shilon who boasts a 10 PPG average with a 60% clip from the field.         

Wheaton College (Ill.) (4-0, 0-0 CCIW)

The Thunder who went 11-1 in 2020-21 and 20-8 in 2019-20 are currently undefeated at 4-0 this season.  They have wins over Maryville College (58-49), Otterbein University (62-34), Lakeland University (61-50), and Benedictine University (60-53).  They average 60.3 points per game, while shooting .394 from the field, .229 from deep, and .609 at the charity stripe.  They hold a 10.2 margin in rebounding with 48 RPG , average 6.5 steals per game and 3.3 blocks per game.

Wheaton has three players in double figures including Annie Tate (20.3 PPG), Hannah Swider (11 PPG), and Caroline Sikkink (10.3 PPG).  Tate also averages 10 rebounds per game, while Ellie Cassell is posting a 9.5 mark on the glass.  Swider has seven steals on the year and Lily Schwen boasts a 2.8 assists average (11 total).     

Willamette University (2-1, 0-0 NWC)

The Bearcats have played three games this season thus far posting a 2-1 record, which includes wins over Multnomah (73-66) and Schreiner (66-50).  They average 59.3 points per game, shooting 43.3% from the field, 25% from three-point range, and 60.4% from the free-throw line.  They haul in 37 rebounds per game with 11 assists, and have turned the ball over a lot averaging 19 turnovers a game. 

They are led by Carolyn Ho who has 40 points on the season, averaging 13.3 points per game, while shooting 59.3% from the field.  Sami Riggs is another contributor with 27 points, shooting 52.4% from the field with 11 rebounds.  Ava Kitchin is also a scorer for the Bearcats totaling 34 points, while shooting 48.3 points per game. She also leads the team in rebounding with 18 and has three steals and two blocks.
