The University of Redlands women's basketball team got their first taste of action during the 2012-13 campaign with an exhibition game against NCAA Division I opponent, UC Davis, on Thursday night.  However, the Aggies prevailed by a score of 78-46, while the Bulldogs took advantage of this early-season opportunity to play 14 of their 16 players, including six new members of the squad.

Redlands battled early, taking a 4-2 lead on a junior forward Brittany Oster (Agoura Hills, CA) jump shot.  Moments later, the Bulldogs held their largest advantage at 9-5 when junior guard Marika Staton (El Centro, CA) knocked down back-to-back buckets en route to her team-high 16 points.  Overall, she went 4-for-6 from three-point range.

However, the Aggies quickly took over, eventually out-shooting the Maroon and Gray with a 37.0% showing from the field.  The Maroon and Gray mustered a 26.8% effort during its first outing.

One of the bright spots for the Bulldogs included four different players registering blocks, with senior post player Chelsea Katsch (Davis, CA), junior forward Madison Sanders-Curry (San Jose, CA), sophomore guard Claire Stach (Portland, OR), and freshman forward Brinsley Farry (Ventura, CA) swatting away opponents' shots.

In addition, Oster led the rebounding effort with six boards, highlighted by three on the offensive end.

The Bulldogs jump into the regular season on Nov. 16-17, when they host the Redlands Tip-Off Classic.  Playing at 7 p.m. both nights, Redlands faces UC Merced on Friday and Hardin-Simmons University (TX) on Saturday.
