Redlands Women's Basketball Dominates Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in 73-45 Win

The University of Redlands women's basketball team held Pomona-Pitzer Colleges to a mere 15 points in the second half as the Bulldogs ran away with a 73-45 victory over the Sagehens in Thursday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match-up. Freshman forward Brittany Oster (Agoura Hills, CA) led the charge by pouring in a career-high 23 points and grabbing 13 rebounds as Redlands garnered its third win in a row.

After a tight first half that saw three tied scores, the Bulldogs nabbed a slight eight-point edge at the break.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Redlands rattled off 14 unanswered points to substantiate its lead at 22. The Maroon and Gray remained in control through the final whistle, running away with the solid victory.

As a team, the Bulldogs shot 45.3% for the game, highlighted by a 50.0% performance from three-point range with sophomore guard Ashley Sevilla (San Diego, CA) hitting four from downtown for 12 points in only 18 minutes of action.

In addition, junior guards Mariah Barbetti-Cort (Ventura, CA) and Christina Rios (San Diego, CA) knocked down a trio of threes each. Barbetti-Cort finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists, while Rios added 10 points and six rebounds.

Pomona-Pitzer (3-14, 1-5 SCIAC) gained a team-high 17 points and eight rebounds from Emily Van Gulik. Emi Hashizume chipped in 12 points and dished out five assists.

With the win, Redlands (11-6, 5-1 SCIAC) remains in a tie for first place in the SCIAC standings. The Bulldogs head to Claremont again on Saturday for a conference doubleheader against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. The women tip off at 5 p.m. with the men taking the court at approximately 7 p.m.
