Redlands Women’s Basketball Prevails over Caltech

Despite its lowest scoring output of the season, the University of Redlands women’s basketball team remained undefeated in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action with a 49-36 victory over Caltech in Pasadena on Thursday. The Bulldogs earned an early lead with their starting five and held off a relentless Beaver squad to capture the win.

Redlands jumped out to a nine-point lead with 11:16 left in the first half when senior guard Ali Bueno (San Jose, CA) hit a three-pointer. Less than six minutes later, the Bulldogs made it a 13-point game as freshman guard Allison Wong (Redding, CA) knocked down a shot from beyond the arc. Redlands maintained control of the lead and went into the locker room with a 27-14 advantage.

During the second half, the Maroon and Gray blew it open to gain a 45-20 lead off of a well-balanced attack with just over seven minutes to go. But the Beavers fought back with a 16-4 run to make it a 13-point game at the final whistle.

Redlands utilized 12 players in the victory with seven of them scoring at least two points.

Sophomore forward Courtney Carroll (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) continued to do what she does well, racking up 20 points in just 20 minutes of action. She also pulled down eight rebounds, including four on the offensive end.

Senior forward Meghan Yetman (Danville, CA) chipped in seven points and six boards for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs (11-3, 3-0 SCIAC) look forward to hosting the Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Saturday’s conference doubleheader with the men. The women tip off at 5 p.m. in Currier Gym., followed by the 7:30 p.m. men’s game.
