Redlands Track & Field wraps up day one at NCAA Championships

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The University of Redlands Track and Field teams had all 10 of their 11 athletes compete in six events on Day 1 of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division III Track and Field Championships Thursday afternoon on the campus of St. John Fisher University (SJU).

The Bulldogs got started with Ella Bachmeier (Rancho Capistrano, CA) in the Heptathlon where she took ninth in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 14.91 as she collected 854 points.

She then jumped 1.46m/4' 9.5" in the High Jump and was successful on her first four heights, which she cleared on her first attempt, but she could not get past 1.49m/4' 10.5" as she added another 577 points. She has 1431 points through two events and sat in 15th as the No. 22 seed.

The third event was the Shot Put where she was 19th and threw 9.24m/30' 3.75" for another 480 points and maintained her 15th-place standing.

In the fourth and final event of the first day, Bachmeier finished 18th in the 200m with a time of 26.77 for 731 points which brought her total through four-of-seven events to 2642 points. She is currently tied for 16th.

In the jumps Markelle Raymond (Fresno, CA) and Ciara Aw (Shoreline, WA) each competed in the Long Jump with Raymond taking 10th with a second jump of 7.17m/23' 6.25". He missed the finals and the opportunity for three additional jumps by one spot and 0.02/1".

For Aw she ended her competition in 13th-place after jumping 5.63m/18' 5.75" on her third and final attempt. In each of her three jumps she improved upon the last. Aw finishes six spots ahead of her 19th seeding.

The final individual competing on day one was Elee Faulkner (Blaine, WA) who improved from her last-place No. 22 seed to 16th-place as she ran a 1:03.31 in the 400m Hurdles. She finished outside of the qualifying spots by 2.37 seconds.

In the 4x100 Relay on the men's side they finished 15th as Gabriel Meunier (Winslow, AZ), Cooper Malerstein (Huntington Beach, CA), Jacob Huset (Tacoma, WA), and Raymond ran a 42.95. Huset filled in for Cristian Megas (Palmdale, CA).

In the women's 4x100 Relay, Maigan Adams (Los Angeles, CA), Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, CA), Sydney Harness (Henderson, NV), and Sabrina Semmere (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) ended with a time of 47.87, 0.81 seconds out of the eighth and final qualifying spot.

On Day 2 Raymond and Harness will compete in the preliminaries of the 100m at 3:00 p.m. and 3:15 p.m Pacific Standard Time (PST) as they both look to make the Top-8 for the finals on Saturday. Bachmeier will finish the final three events of the Heptathlon starting with the Long Jump at 8:30 a.m. PST.
