Redlands Men's Track and Field goes 4-0 as they sweep SCIAC No. 3

LOS ANGELES – The University of Redlands Men's Track and Field team went 4-0 against California Lutheran University, host Occidental College, Pomona-Pitzer, and Chapman University Saturday afternoon at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) No. 3 dual meet. The Bulldogs won nine events and had a combined 12 first and second place finishes.

Redlands swept the competition beating Occidental 122-41, Chapman (116-46), Cal Lutheran (125-38), and Pomona-Pitzer (99-64) finishing their dual-meet season 7-1 overall.  

Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Markelle Raymond (Fresno, CA) who won the 100m (10.70) and the Long Jump with a new personal best of 6.97m/22' 10.5".

In the 4x100 Relay Raymond was the anchor of a winning time of 42.11 as Gabriel Meunier (Winslow, AZ) was the starter followed by Cooper Malerstein (Huntington Beach, CA) and Joseph Pang (Henderson, NV).

Fellow sprinter Jamir Jones (Fairfield, CA) won the 400m with a new personal best of 48.92.

In the middle-distance events Riley Lathrop (Honolulu, HI) was the runner-up in the 800m with a personal best time of 1:54.71. Lathrop now has personal bests in the 800m, 1500m, and 3000m Steeplechase during 2023. Then the lone Bulldog in the 1500m, Ronan Byrne (Portola Valley, CA), won the race by posting a personal best of 4:00.82.

In the hurdles Gael Orozco (Claremont, CA) took home the top spot in the 110m event, winning in 16.49.

The area where the Bulldogs picked up a lot of points was the jumps as they won the High Jump, Long jump and Triple Jump. Adding to Raymond's Long Jump win was Jacob Huset (Tacoma, WA) who was the High Jump winner, posting a height of 1.92m/6' 3.5". Right behind Huset was Allyn Asberry-Blanco (Orange County, N.Y.) who posted a new personal best of 1.77m/ 5' 9.75" on his fifth height.

Asberry-Blanco added to his great day with a win and another personal best in the Triple Jump. He set his new personal best on his third attempt as he jumped 14.03m/46' 0.5". Coming in second in the event was Owen Schmitz (Fremont, CA) with a third jump of 13.61m/44' 8".

In the throws there were eight Bulldogs that finished in the Top-8, but only Tyler Davies (Lake Forest, CA) was able to crack the podium finishes as he was third in the hammer after a fourth and final throw of 38.29m/125' 7".

Redlands will now turn their attention to the SCIAC Championships as they head to the University of La Verne in two weeks, Sunday-Monday, April 29-30.
