Track & Field Sends Small Contingent of Runners to Oxy Distance Carnival

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Head University of Redlands Track & Field Coach Mike Schmidt sent a small contingent of distance runners to the Oxy Distance Carnival Saturday.

A combined fourteen athletes competed from both programs with six coming from the women and another eight for the men.  Two runners finished inside the top 10 in their respective events, and another four within the top 30.      

Women

Alexis Wallace had the big finish on the evening coming in the 10,000m taking 5th with a 38:26.25, which now ranks her 3rd All-Time in the University of Redlands record books.  Chloe Bullock (Hood River, OR) also had a strong race in the 800m taking 13th with a 2:21.58 and Cece Matteson (Seattle, WA) followed in 32nd with a 2:31.67.

The last race where Bulldogs competed was in the 5,000m with a trio of athletes taking part.  Isabella Glenn (Seattle, WA) finished 43rd overall with an 18:26.28, and was joined by Sherianne Green (Grass Valley, CA) (98th – 19:31.33) and Destiny Jacobo (Running Springs, CA) (122nd – 20:09.89).      

Men 

Riley Lathrop (Honolulu, HI) had a record breaking day in the 1,500m to lead the men finishing 10th overall with a 3:57.42, which moves him to 8th All-Time in the University of Redlands record books.

Another record performance came from Rogelio Salcido (Beaumont, CA) in the 10,000m who came in 20th with a 33:38.52.  He now sits 10th All-Time in the University of Redlands record books.  In that same event Brandon Farnsworth (Palos Verdes Estate, CA) wasn't far off taking 22nd with a 33:52.76.  Two bulldogs competed in the 800m with Aidan Strealy (Lake Oswego, OR) coming in 34th with a time of 2:00.62.  Right behind him was Ronan Byrne (Portola Valley, CA) who came in 37th with a 2:00.74.

Quentin Olive-Larson (Fort Collins, CO) and Miguel Fausto (Whittier, CA) both took part in the 5,000m, but couldn't break the top 100 as they would go 158th (15:48.28) and 226th (16:38.53), respectively.   

The last bulldog to compete on the day was Joey Roberts (San Diego, CA) in the 3,000m Steeplechase who posted a 23rd place finish with a 10:11.77.           

Redlands returns to competition this Friday, March 18 when they host the annual Redlands Invitational.  The event will take place from 3:00pm-10:00pm inside Ted Runner Stadium.
