REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Swimming & Diving teams will take part in the UPS Logger Invite this weekend, hosted by the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA.

The Invitational will take place over three days beginning this evening, Friday, December 3 at 6:00pm and other teams participating include the University of Puget Sound, College of Idaho, Pacific Lutheran, SOKA, Southwestern Oregon CC, Whitman, and Whitworth.

Timeline

The Maroon and Grey are well rested after having three weeks off from competition.  Their last meet was against Pomona-Pitzer back on November 13.  The last time Redlands competed in the UPS Logger Invitational was in 2016 with the men taking home five top-three finishes (200 Free Relay, 800 Free Relay, 200 Breast, 200 IM, 100 Free), while the women worked their way onto the podium four times (800 Free Relay, 200 Breast, 200 IM, 100 Free).

Day 1 Competitors

Tonight the University of Redlands will have a number of student-athletes competing in the first two events.  For the women, they have a trio of teams racing in the 200 Medley Relay (Heat 3 – Lanes 1 {1:54.50}, 4 {1:48.91} & 8 {1:56.50}).  They also have another three teams competing in the 800 Free Relay (Heat 1 – Lane 2 {8:40}), (Heat 2 – Lane 3 {8:00} & 8 {8:13}). 

On the men's side two teams will race in the 200 Medley Relay (Heat 2 – Lane 3 {1:41.50), (Heat 3 – Lane 3 {1:37.24}), with two going in the 800 Free Relay (Heat 1 – Lane 4 {7:24)), (Heat 2 – Lane 6 {7:10.67}).

Day 2 Competitors

Women

Saturday competition begins with the 200 Free Relay with three teams from the U of R Competing in Heats 1 (Lane 4) & 3 (Lanes 1 and 5).  The first individual event will be the 200 Fly, which will include Sarah Szafranski (2:17.49), Verenice Tapia (2:30.47), and Makenna Parenti (2:18.12).  Then comes the 50 Free with Sydney Britton (33.08), Abby Springer (30.33), Gaby Hayon (29.70), Sydney Nakagawa (28.38), Emma Jones (32.15), and Lauren Kline (29.80).

The 200 Breast will include Hanna Parker (2:35.40) Morgan Felix (2:36.11), and Madison Southmayd (2:30.76).  Event 13 will be the 50 Fly, with Anna O'Meara (29.80), Parenti (27.50), Tapia (29.00), Szafranski (28.50), and Madison Petschauer (26.50) all racing.  Two races later in the 200 Back Kline (2:16.70), Nakagawa (2:12.44), Emma Jones (2:19.72) Springer (2:18.19), and Britton (2:20.01) will go against a field of 27.

The 50 Breast will only have two heats, but will include Felix (33.50) and Parker (30.50).  Then comes the 100 Free, which will have seven heats and 63 competitors, including Tapia (58.63), O'Meara (59.30), Emily Heaston (59.93), Jacqueline Setlich (56.58), and Ashleigh Merrill (57.29).  Event 21 will be the 200 IM with six Bulldogs competing, which includes Kline (2:21.14), Felix (2:22.63), Petschauer (2:13.62), Szafranski (2:21.77), Springer (2:24.39), and Southmayd (2:23.93).

Then in the distance, the 500 Free, Heaston (5:53.70), Jones (5:52.22), Setlich (5:38.54), Hayon (5:26.83), and Andrea Brenstrom (5:24.57) will lead U of R.  The final event on the day will be the 400 Medley Relay with three teams from the University of Redlands competing with seeding times of 4:02, 4:11, and 4:20.

Men

Three heats of the 200 Free Relay will get the day started on the men's side.  Two teams will compete for the Bulldogs in Heat 2 (1:32.50) and Heat 3 (1:28.00).  Their first individual event will be the 200 Fly with only one Bulldog competing in Drew Heaston (2:02.44).  Tom Jansen will lead the charge in the 50 Back (27.82) and the 200 Breast will include Davis Wingard (2:17.26), Lucas Walker (2:06.57), Thomas Long (2:18.79), and Garrett Long (2:23.35).  Jack Forsythe (23.90) will lead four Bulldogs in the 50 Fly joining Heaston (24.30), Memphis Gile (24.50), and Chris Loudon (25.00).

In the 50 Breast, Long (31.00), Walker (27.50), and Wingard (29.20) will compete.  Then in the 100 Free, 55 competitors in seven heats will go at it including Loudon (50.81), Scott Shim (51.53), Forsythe (49.31), Blake Eddow (47.49), and Gile (48.84).  The 200 IM will have four heats with G. Long (2:10.91), Walker (1:58.38), Wingard (2:06.70), T. Long (2:02.40), and Heaston (2:05.81) competing.  In the 500 Free distance, Loudon (5:12.42), Eddow (4:49.83), and Jansen (4:58.59) will put their stamina on show and to end the day two teams will compete in the 400 Medley Relay with seeding times of 3:53.00 and 3:35.00).                                       

Day 3 Competitors

Women

The women return for the final day competing in nine events.  They begin with the 100 IM with Petschauer (1:00.89), Felix (1:06.54), and Southmayd (1:06.23) jumpstarting the Maroon and Grey.  In the 200 Free O'Meara (2:12.89), Britton (2:10.01), Jones (2:08.10), Brenstrom (2:05.22), Setlich (2:03.12), and Merrill (2:06.32) will go head to head.  Then in the six heats of the 100 Fly, O'Meara (1:05.92), Parenti (1:02.33), Tapia (1:03.38), Szafranski (1:01.88), Petschauer (57.42), Springer (1:02.11), and Heaston (1:04.51) will go up against a competitive field.  Southmayd (1:07.78), Parker (1:08.98), Felix (1:10.67), and Petschauer (1:06.69) will return in the 100 Breast followed by Kline (1:04.08), Britton (1:06.34), Hayon (1:04.27), Nakagawa (1:01.21), Springer (1:03.26), and Jones (1:05.71) competing in the 100 Back.

Another seven heats will occur for the 50 Free with Parker (27.50), O'Meara (27.06), Tapia (27.36), Szafranski (26.51), Nakagawa (25.22), Setlich (26.06), Parenti (25.46), and Merrill (26.04) all going against each other.  Up next will be the 1650 Free Distance and a pair of Bulldogs will compete in Hayon (18:50.00) and Brenstrom (18:20.00).  The final event of the invite will be the 400 Free Relay and UR has three teams competing with seeding times of 3:45.00, 3:49.00, and 3:52.00.         

Men

A trio of Bulldogs will get the second day of action started in the 100 IM including T. Long (57.44), Heaston (56.40), and G. Long (1:00.42). Five heats of the 200 Free will take place and UR sees Jansen (1:51.24), Eddow (1:43.80), Loudon (1:50.42), and Shim (1:54.01) compete.  Another three Bulldogs will race in the 100 Fly, including Heaston (53.52), Forsythe (55.81), and Gile (54.94).  

The 100 Breast will see Shim (1:06.26), Wingard (1:02.48), G. Long (1:06.75), Walker (57.95), and T. Long (1:01.98) all race.  Then comes the 50 Free with 53 competitors across seven heats.  Shim (23.60), Loudon (23.13), Gile (22.23), Forsythe (22.18), and Eddow (22.40) will compete in front of the 400 IM, which will see Walker (4:12.00) and Wingard (4:30.00) swim.  Jansen will return to be the lone Bulldog in the 1650 Free (16:45.00) and will look to create a spark heading into the final race, which is the 400 Free Relay.  Redlands has two teams competing coming in with times of 3:12.75 and 3:20.00.
