Redlands Swim and Dive Sweeps La Verne and Occidental on Senior Day

The University of Redlands men's and women's swim and dive teams grabbed two wins Saturday in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) tri-meet. The Bulldog men beat the University of La Verne 186-39 and Occidental College 165-71, while the women beat the Leopards 184-49 and the Tigers 138-96.

Before the meet got started, the Bulldogs honored the careers of their seniors.

Off the 3-meter diving board, senior Jacob Miner (Antioch, CA) took first with a score of 237.25 and took second off the 1-meter board with a score of 228.95. Senior Sami Scarano (Boulder, CO) and sophomore Makenna Parenti (Rocklin, CA) led the 1-meter board for the women, taking first and second with respective scores of 213.80 and 169.85. Scarano followed with another first-place finish off the 3-meter, scoring 243.70 points. Later in the day, Parenti also won the 100 Fly in 58.69.

Junior Jack McCormick (Santa Rosa, CA) had a solid day for the Bulldogs, grabbing three first-place finishes. He anchored the 200 Medley Relay to lead Redlands to first with a time of 1:37.04. He also touched first in the 50 Free, clocking in at 21.64, and once again helped a Bulldog relay team take first in the 200 Free with a time of 1:26.52.

Seniors Michael Talag (Lakewood, CA) and Matt Skinner (Lakewood, CO) also played important roles in the Bulldogs' 200 Free Relay win, while also taking first place in individual events. Talag finished the 100 Free in 47.72 and Skinner clocked in at 52.49 in the 100 Fly.

The Bulldogs saw more first-place finishes throughout the day. Senior Anthony Gutierrez (Ontario, CA) had the fastest time in the longest event of the day, finishing the 1000 Free in 10:18.30. First-year Blake Eddow (Corona, CA) placed first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:20.81 and sophomore Tom Jansen (Pleasant Hill, CA) took first in the 500 Free (4:57.80). Junior Eric Forbes (Ladera Ranch, CA) – who also competed in the 200 Medley Relay – took first in the 100 Breast, clocking a time of 1:00.30.

On the women's side, sophomore Sydney Nakagawa (Vancouver, WA) won the 50 Free out-touching the competition in 24.47 and the 100 Back in 59.57. First-year Gaby Hayon (Westlake Village, CA) took the top spot in the 500 Free in 5:29.86.

Additionally, Senior Julia Hagenbaumer (Naperville, IL) won the 100 Breast for the Maroon and Gray with a time of 1:07.07.

Finally, Nakagawa teamed up with sophomores Jacqueline Setlich (Laguna Niguel, CA), Mary Tanouye (Kiel, WI), and Emily Heaston (Corona, CA) to win the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:41.19.

The Bulldog divers look forward to competing in the SCIAC Diving Championships on Saturday, February 15, and Sunday, February 16 while the swimmers compete in the conference Championships the following weekend, from Thursday, February 20, to Sunday, February 23.
