It was officially announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) that eight University of Redlands softball players earned NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors, as determined by their cumulative GPAs during the 2016-17 academic year. In order to qualify, individuals must earn a 3.5 or higher as a member of a softball program.

Redlands joins all eight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) softball programs among the record-breaking 7,351 student-athletes to garner this recognition across seven membership divisions, including NCAA Divisions I, II, and III: NAIA; high school (weighted and unweighted); and junior colleges.

The Bulldogs' honorees include now-graduated outfielders Amanda Ang '17 (Santa Cruz, CA) and Marissa Romero '17 (Manteca, CA), who competed for the Bulldogs throughout their four-year careers.  Ang completed her degree in Communicative Disorders, while Romero earned her bachelor's in English Literature.

Senior infielders Ursyla Baumgarten (Penngrove, CA) and Shannon Skrzynski (Pomona, CA) also represent the Maroon and Gray among the awardees and look forward to their final campaign at Redlands.  They are joined by junior catchers Tawney Lilley (Alta Loma, CA) and Olivia Vierra (Burlingame, CA), junior infielder Jordyn Smith (Highland, CA), and sophomore outfielder Jaci Sanchez (Lakewood, CA) as recipients of this scholarly distinction.
