Softball Standout AJ Carrasco Caps Impressive Career with Second NFCA All-America Nod

Senior center-fielder AJ Carrasco (Whittier, CA) of the University of Redlands softball team added one more accolade to her outstanding résumé earlier tonight, when she was officially honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as an All-American for the second time in her illustrious career.  While attending the awards banquet in Salem, Virginia, she officially joined Bulldog softball's elite company as a repeat All-American with this year's spot on the Second Team.

Following her Third-Team nod as a sophomore, Carrasco becomes the third student-athlete in Redlands softball history to earn a pair of All-America nods.  Earlier this month, she became a three-time NFCA All-Region First-Team selection.

During the 2016 campaign, Carrasco served as the Maroon and Gray's lead-off hitter en route to a batting average of .479 and a slugging percentage of .782.  She barreled a team-high 57 hits that included seven triples for another top mark among the Bulldogs.

With her speed on the base-paths, she tallied 44 runs and swiped 25 bags to rank first among the Maroon and Gray in both categories.  In addition, she proved to be the toughest Bulldog to strike out, recording only two in 119 at-bats.

Carrasco consistently led from the plate, as highlighted by an 8-for-8 showing in the doubleheader against Hamline University (MN) in late March, which contributed to her 18 multi-hit games on the season.

This defensive stalwart recorded an impressive .987 fielding percentage that included 68 putouts and nine assists.
