The University of Redlands softball team faced off against the Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday afternoon at the "Field of Dreams," earning a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) sweep for the first time since March 6.  Junior pitcher Lauren Henson (Highland, CA) secured both wins from the circle, as the Bulldogs defeated the visiting team by scores of 6-1 and 3-1.

During the opening game, the Maroon and Gray jumped on the board in the bottom of the first inning when graduate student right-fielder Amanda Lievanos (Anaheim, CA) launched an RBI-single to plate junior center-fielder AJ Carrasco (Whittier, CA), who led off the frame with a hit.

Redlands put up a four-spot in the subsequent inning, as junior third baseman Addie Oeleis (Temecula, CA) blasted a bases-clearing double to account for three of the runs.  Carrasco also contributed to the big inning with an RBI-single with the bases loaded to plate freshman second baseman Haley Farr (Chino, CA) from third.

The Bulldogs tacked on another run in the fourth inning, while the Sagehens notched one in the top of the sixth, resulting in the 6-1 final tally.

Carrasco was 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored, while Oeleis, Skrzysnki, and Lievanos each connected on two hits.

Henson collected the win after pitching a four-hit game in a seven-inning effort.  She also fanned two batters.

Redlands' defense stepped up in the second game, as a tight 1-1 pitchers' duel kept things interesting through the first four innings.

Each team pushed one run across with close calls at home plate.  For Redlands, Lievanos scored from second in the bottom of the first on a long single to center field by junior left-fielder Grace Rose (Villa Park, CA).

Pomona-Pitzer answered with a run in the top of the second, but Carrasco's perfect throw after snagging the ball in left-center field prohibited the Sagehens from scoring more in a bases-loaded situation.

Sophomore starter Courtney Ludlow (Petaluma, CA) scattered four hits and allowed just one run before Henson took over in the circle in the top of the fifth.

After another close play at the plate, the Bulldogs subsequently took advantage of a wild pitch to score the eventual winning run in the bottom of the fifth

During the sixth inning, Redlands' defense stepped up in huge way, as Lievanos snagged a fly-ball off the fence for the first out with one runner on.  Henson then answered her teammate's stellar play by striking out the next two batters, both of whom were looking.

Farr then launched an RBI-double in the bottom of the stanza, plating freshman short stop Shannon Skrzynski (Pomona, CA) for the Bulldogs' insurance run.

Junior first baseman Vicki King (Thousand Oaks, CA) went 3-for-3 in the second contest, while Rose and Skrzynski each recorded a 2-for-3 outing.

Redlands (15-17, 9-11 SCIAC) heads to Chapman University on Friday, April 10, for a conference doubleheader against the Panthers at 2 p.m.
