Redlands Men's Water Polo Rolls La Verne 14-8 During Homecoming

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Water Polo team took down the University of La Verne, Saturday 14-8 during Homecoming at the Thompson Aquatic Center (TAC).

The Bulldogs opened with the first three goals of the game, all coming from Drake Moody (Camarillo, CA). Andrew Sorensen (Long Beach, CA) and Alec Abrahamian (Glendale, CA) made it 5-1 Bulldogs with 2:16 remaining in the opening quarter.

The Leopards would start to close the gap with a 3-1 run in the second quarter as the lead dipped to two, 7-5, with 2:03 left in the opening half. Neither team scored the rest of the half as the Bulldogs took the lead into the half.

The Bulldogs opened the third quarter with two of the first three goals. Sorensen got his second of the game and Jake Rose (San Diego, CA) put his name on the scoresheet as he made it 9-6 Bulldogs with 30 seconds to go in the third.

In the fourth the Bulldogs closed the game out with three-straight goals as they took a five-goal lead midway through the quarter. Spencer Clinton (Cypress, CA) finished off the game with his fourth goal of the quarter with 30 seconds left as Redlands won their homecoming game.

Redlands outshot La Verne 40-30, posted a .350 shooting percentage, and converted on their lone penalty opportunity. The Bulldogs did struggle, allowing 4-of-7 on powerplays, a .571 powerplay percentage.

Clinton led all players with five points on five goals. Spencer Sellwood (Irvine, CA) had a goal, three assists, and three steals. Brandon Khalil (Bakersfield, CA) made eight saves and recorded three steals.

The Bulldogs stay at home for a matchup with Whittier College next Wednesday, October 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Thompson Aquatic Center.
