The University of Redlands men's water polo team squared off against the Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran University in Wednesday afternoon's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match at the Thompson Aquatic Center.  After jumping out to a 3-1 lead in the first period, the Bulldogs stayed in front while expanding their advantage to earn a 12-5 victory in the final home contest of the season.

Redlands came out on fire, scoring three-consecutive goals by the 3:30-mark of the opening frame.  Senior center-defender Jake Funk (Fremont, CA) got things rolling, before senior center John Koning (Poway, CA) and sophomore driver Kevin Chapa (Carlsbad, CA) each found the back of the net for the Bulldogs' early-game hat trick.

Although CLU pulled one back late in the quarter, the Maroon and Gray held a 3-1 advantage to start the second stanza.  This was the closest period of the game, as the Kingsmen cut the deficit to one goal at 3-4.

However, the Bulldogs answered right back by finishing the game with a 7-2 run for the solid victory.

Overall, Redlands used a well-balanced attack that included nine different goal-scorers, with Chapa leading the charge with three goals.  Koning was the only other Bulldog with more than one netter.

Junior goalkeeper Chris Sekula (LaGrange, IL) patrolled the Redlands cage by making seven stops.

Redlands (13-12, 4-2 SCIAC) heads to Riverside for a non-conference match against Cal Baptist University on Friday, November 6, at 7 p.m.
