Nils Plutat named SCIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

SCIAC Men's Tennis Weekly Release No. 7

REDLANDS, Calif. - The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced their Men's Tennis Athletes of the Week in the seventh week of voting and University of Redlands senior Nils Plutat (Sauerlach, Bavaria, Germany) earns recognition for the first time in his career.   

Nils led the University of Redlands Men's Tennis team to a 2-1 week, which included wins over California Lutheran University (6-3) and Grinnell College (7-2).  The lone loss for the Bulldogs coming against No. 5 Tufts 5-2.  Nils played No. 1 Doubles and No. 1 Singles all week going a perfect 6-0. 

All week he paired up with Bryce Keim (Spartanburg, S.C.) in doubles and they sparked the three matches off with an upset win over the No. 2 ranked team in Division III from the Jumbos winning 8-4.  He and Keim then beat the Kingsmen's top duo 8-6 and then beat Grinnell College 8-2.

In singles Plutat was untouchable cruising through the week allowing only 11 games beating Tuft's 6-2, 6-1, Cal Lutheran's Lossangoye 6-1, 6-1, who was a 2nd Team All-SCIAC player a year ago and then Grinnell's top player 6-4, 6-2.

Redlands returns to the court tomorrow, Tuesday, March 28 when they host UC Santa Cruz at the Verdieck Tennis Center beginning at 5:00pm in a big West Region match-up.
