Four Men's Soccer Standouts Receive United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Recognition

The United Soccer Coaches announced earlier today that the University of Redlands men's soccer team collected four All-West Region awards, as highlighted by senior midfielder Casey ChubbFertal's (Eugene, OR) First-Team selection.  In addition, senior forward Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR) and senior defender Ben Thompson (Spokane, WA) each snagged a spot on the Second Team, while senior goalkeeper Josh Haskill (Lakewood, CA) rounded out the Bulldog honorees with his Third-Team honor.

With four awards between the three All-Region teams, Redlands ranks first among the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) schools to be honored.

ChubbFertal, Boone, Thompson, and Haskill all contributed to the team's overall record of 14-4-2 that included an undefeated, 12-0-2 run through conference for the program's 15th regular-season title. The talented quartet played a major part in the Maroon and Gray's SCIAC-leading 47 goals and 30 assists while also keeping the lowly goals-against average of 0.92.

Following his recent SCIAC Athlete of the Year award, ChubbFertal adds to his résumé by collecting his second-consecutive First-Team nod to bring his grand total to three All-Region accolades.  During his senior season, he found the back of the net eight times, as highlighted by three game-winners.  He also served up four assists for a team-leading 20 points. Beyond his scoring abilities, ChubbFertal played an integral role in managing the midfield with composure, skill, and vision.

Boone also collects his third-consecutive All-Region honor with this year's Second-Team nod. His fancy footwork allowed him to juke defenders and dish out a conference-leading seven assists. In addition, he scored five goals for 17 points in his final campaign.  His lone game-winner came in the Bulldogs' 3-0 victory over Pomona-Pitzer Colleges during the semifinal of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament on November 1.  Furthermore, this three-time All-SCIAC recipient was a consistent thorn in opponents' defenses due to his creative, technical ability.

In addition, Thompson receives his second-consecutive All-Region plaudit, with this year's award placing him on the Second Team. This talented defender helped solidify the Bulldogs' backline while also scoring two goals, with one serving as a game-winning header at Pomona-Pitzer on September 9. In addition to his two All-Region nods, Thompson also owns a pair of All-SCIAC First-Team honors as a staple of the Bulldog defense.

Rounding out the impressive quartet, Haskill gains his second All-Region nod of his four-year career. For the 2017 campaign, Haskill finished among the top five in the conference with a .813 save percentage and an impressive .91 goals-against average. Furthermore, he completed his time at Redlands as a two-time All-SCIAC member with 11 shutouts.
