Senior Midfielder Sergio Valencia Tabbed SCIAC Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week

It was announced earlier today by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) that senior midfielder Sergio Valencia (San Jose, CA) of the University of Redlands has been selected as this week's Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week.

Valencia led the Maroon and Gray to a 2-0 week that clinched the Bulldogs' 15th overall conference championship and maintained the team's undefeated record of 12-0-2 for the 2017 campaign.

On Wednesday, he provided the game-winning goal in a tight, hard-fought battle over Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.  After a failed Sagehen clearance attempt, Valencia rocketed the ball through traffic from 30 yards out to find the back of the net.

Valencia also supplied an assist on the first goal of the game against Occidental College en route to Redlands' 2-1 win over the Tigers on Senior Day.

Overall, Valencia owns four goals and four assists for 12 points on the season.

Valencia and the Bulldogs look forward to hosting Pomona-Pitzer in the semifinal of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament on Wednesday, November 1, at 7 p.m. on Farquhar Field.
