No. 16 Bulldog Men's Soccer Set to Host Pomona-Pitzer in Semifinal of SCIAC Postseason Tournament

The 16th-ranked University of Redlands men's soccer team excitedly serves as host to one of the semifinals of the 2017 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament on Wednesday, November 1.  By defeating the visiting Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Sagehens on October 25, the Bulldogs clinched the regular-season title for the fourth-consecutive year and enter the tournament as the top seed for the eighth time.  A week later, the Maroon and Gray welcomes these same foes to Farquhar Field at 7 p.m. for a rematch in the semifinal match.

Redlands completed the regular season on Saturday with a 2-1 overtime win against Occidental College for an overall record of 13-3-2 and a 12-0-2 mark in conference for 38 points.

The Bulldogs own the head-to-head results against the Sagehens with a pair of wins.  Redlands topped Pomona-Pitzer in the teams' first meeting on September 9 by a score of 3-2 and then completed the regular-season sweep with Wednesday's 1-0 result.

Senior midfielder Casey ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) and sophomore forward Antony Chonga (San Diego, CA) co-lead the team with eight overall goals. Chonga scored both goals against Occidental to preserve the team's undefeated SCIAC run. ChubbFertal also has four assists for a team-leading 20 points on the season. Senior forward Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR) serves as the team's top play-maker with six assists, which places him in a tie for first among the conference players.  In addition, senior goalkeeper Josh Haskill (Lakewood, CA) has racked up nearly 1,000 minutes between the posts for seven wins. He has tallied 44 saves and holds a low goals-against average of 0.91.

As the three-seed, Pomona-Pitzer owns an overall mark of 8-7-2 and a SCIAC record of 7-5-2.

For the Sagehens, junior forward Aidan Ferrer paces the team with seven goals and three assists for 17 points. Senior goalkeeper Ben Mitchell has started all 14 games in which he has appeared to earn 1,300 minutes between the posts. He has racked up 52 saves and a 1.01 goals-against average.

In the other semifinal, No. 2-seeded Cal Lutheran University (11-4-2, 9-3-2 SCIAC) will host No. 3-seeded Chapman University (9-6-3, 9-4-1 SCIAC) on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The winners of the semifinal games will square off in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament final on Saturday, November 4, at the site of the highest remaining seed.
