The University of Redlands men's soccer team took the short drive to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Wednesday evening for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) battle against the Stags. Despite falling behind early, the Bulldogs responded by notching three goals to take home the 3-2 comeback win.

The Stags lit up the scoreboard in the 26th minute, forcing Redlands to ramp up the intensity early on. The Bulldogs did just that in the next sequence of plays, as they earned three corner kicks and four shots, with three going on goal, in just three minutes of action. 

The visiting team's persistence paid off in the 42nd minute when senior midfielder Casey ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) headed in the equalizer goal off of senior forward Cameron Doody's (Arvada, CO) perfectly placed free kick.

Both teams entered the second half firing on all cylinders, as they both took two shots in the first three minutes of play.

Redlands overtook the lead in the 49th minute with a well-executed corner kick by senior midfielder Alexander Knox (Seattle, WA).  After Knox launched the ball towards the front of the goal, senior forward Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR) found himself in the right place at the right time to head it past the CMS goalkeeper for the 2-1 lead.

The Bulldogs kept up the offensive pressure, as Knox, Boone, and Doody each created quality chances late in the game.  But the back-and-forth style of play continued, as Redlands was tested defensively more than a few times as well.

In the 71st minute, the Maroon and Gray secured the eventual game-winner on a unique turn of events.  Senior goalkeeper John Melito (Keller, TX) booted a goal-kick deep into CMS' offensive third, where Doody flicked the ball to sophomore forward Antony Chonga (San Diego, CA), who chipped it over the Stag goalkeeper to make it 3-1.

This forced CMS to play with some urgency, which resulted in another goal with seven minutes left in the game. The Stags' had another chance to tie it up, but Melito answered with a huge save to ultimately secure the 3-2 SCIAC victory.

The Bulldogs (5-3-0, 5-0-0) take to the road again on Saturday, September 23, when they face Whittier College in a SCIAC game at 11 a.m.
