Bulldog Men's Soccer Dons Five All-West Region Honorees for Biggest Haul Since 2011

It was announced earlier today that five University of Redlands men's soccer standouts garnered recognition from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as members of the All-West Region teams.  Junior midfielder Casey ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) represented the Bulldogs on the First Team, while junior forward Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR), junior goalkeeper Josh Haskill (Lakewood, CA), and junior defender Keoni Yates (Kailua-Kona, HI) landed on the Second Team.  In addition, junior defender Ben Thompson (Spokane, WA) collected Third-Team honors for the Maroon and Gray.

This marks the most All-Region awards since 2011 for Bulldog men's soccer.

While starting in all 25 games played, ChubbFertal masterfully orchestrated the offense and defense en route to collecting his second-consecutive All-Region award.  With incredible skill and vision, he led the team with eight assists and five game-winners. His 11 goals on the season came at crucial times in important games, including two against Washington University of St. Louis to force overtime in the first round of the NCAA Championships.

Another back-to-back All-West Region selection, Boone led the team with 18 goals and 43 points, with his total points tying him for 11th in NCAA Division III this season. Boone displayed his fancy footwork to fake out defenders and create excellent scoring opportunities, including four, two-goal showings.

Haskill receives the first All-Region award of his career with this year's distinction.  While starting in 13 of his 16 games played, he racked up more than 1,100 minutes between the posts this season. He tallied 41 saves, including the biggest of the season in the penalty-kick shootout against WashU to help advance the Bulldogs to the second round of the NCAA Championships.

Following a solid season as a consistent member of the Bulldogs' backline, Yates also earns his first-ever All-Region nod.  While using his speed and strength, he successfully locked down opposing forwards and contributed to the team's goals-against average of 1.09.  He also stepped up offensively by providing four assists on the season.

Rounding out the Maroon and Gray's All-Region selections, Thompson caps off a huge year with his inaugural distinction. With poise and reliability, he continually came up with big clears to lessen the threat in front of the Bulldog goal. On the other side of the pitch, Thompson netted four goals this season, including one game-winner against DePauw University (IN) in the second round of the NCAA Championships.

Beyond the individual achievements, this quintet played an integral role in Redlands' "double championship" that included the regular-season and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament titles.  Furthermore, these standouts guided the Maroon and Gray into the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time since 2007.
