No. 11 Redlands Men's Soccer Falls to Chapman Panthers in SCIAC Showdown

The 11th-ranked University of Redlands men's soccer team took to the road to face Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) rival, Chapman University, on Saturday afternoon. Despite scoring the equalizer in the 10th minute, Redlands struggled to counter the Panthers' subsequent goal en route to a 1-2 loss.

After the Panthers netted a quick score in the eighth minute, Redlands settled in and worked the ball to Chapman's half of the field. Junior midfielder Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR) gathered a great ball, did some fancy footwork around a defender, and blasted a strike to the far post to equalize the game only 10 minutes in.

Although the Maroon and Gray outshot the Panthers 6-5 in the first half, with three shots coming off the foot of junior forward Alexander Knox (Seattle, WA), Chapman was able to net one more score before halftime.

A quality chance came in the 55th minute when junior midfielder Casey ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) unleashed back-to-back shots, with the first getting blocked and the second finding the post.  Boone gathered the deflection and also let go of a good look but hit the opposite post in an unprofitable effort.

Defensively, junior goalkeeper Josh Haskill (Lakewood, CA) made five great saves in the second half to keep the Bulldogs within striking distance.

Redlands (13-4-0, 11-3-0 SCIAC) looks forward to returning to the friendly confines of Farquhar Field on Monday, October 24, to face the University of La Verne Leopards at 7 p.m.
