The No. 11/18 University of Redlands men's soccer team traveled to Eagle Rock on Monday night to face the Tigers of Occidental College in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown. The Bulldogs struggled to establish an offensive rhythm against the persistent pressure of the Tigers, leading to a 1-3 loss on the road.

Amidst a plethora of fouls in the first 20 minutes, the physicality of the game was established early on.

Unfortunately for the Maroon and Gray, Occidental's offensive intensity resulted in three goals by the 30-minute mark of the opening frame.

After junior goalkeeper John Melito (Keller, TX) entered the game in the 33rd minute, he made three stops before the end of the opening half and finished the night with four saves.

In the 40th minute, a foul in the box resulted in a penalty kick for the Maroon and Gray. Junior forward Alexander Knox (Seattle, WA) took the kick and netted his third goal of the season to cut the deficit to two.

The Bulldogs continued to battle during the second stanza by firing off six shots. Junior midfielder Casey ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) recorded three and senior midfielder Isaac Bogart (Lynden, WA) notched two in the final 45 minutes.

Redlands (6-2-0) (4-1-0 SCIAC) looks to bounce back on Wednesday, September 21, when its heads to the University of La Verne to take on the Leopards at 7 p.m.
