The No. 21 University of Redlands men's soccer team kicked off Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action on Wednesday by traveling to Caltech to face the Beavers in an afternoon showdown.  While utilizing most of its talented roster, Redlands put on a scoring display en route to a solid 5-0 win.

Junior forward Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR) initiated the offensive outpouring in the third minute of the game, when junior defender Keoni Yates (Kailua-Kona, HI) found him on a beautifully placed cross.

Although it was 30 minutes before the Bulldogs found the back of the net again, their second goal opened the floodgates for four more scores through the final whistle.  Yates continued to serve as the playmaker with another assist while joining forces with junior midfielder Will MacFarlane (Park City, UT) to connect with junior forward Alexander Knox (Seattle, WA) to make it 2-0.  Redlands closed out the half with another after Knox and senior midfielder Isaac Bogart (Lynden, WA) took on the role of ball-distributors by providing assists on MacFarlane's first-ever goal as a Bulldog.

Less than a minute into the second stanza, junior midfielder Casey ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) found space on a header-goal that developed after a corner kick.  Boone capped off the Maroon and Gray's impressive performance with another goal of his own in the 60th minute.

Overall, Redlands out-shot the Beavers by a 30-3 margin, with Boone and sophomore forward Kayvon Parsa (West Hills, CA) leading the charge by combining for 11 attempts.

After making just one save in 73:17, junior goalkeeper Josh Haskill (Lakewood, CA) gave way to junior goalkeeper John Melito (Keller, TX) as the Bulldogs' last line of defense. Together, they recorded the team's second shutout of the young season.  Redlands also relied on the stellar presence and ball-control of senior defender Austin Moore (Las Vegas, NV), sophomore defender Spencer Scott (Beaverton, OR), junior defender Ben Thompson (Spokane, WA), and Yates to set the tone early and minimize Caltech's scoring chances.

Redlands (2-0-0, 1-0-0 SCIAC) returns home to Farquhar Field for a non-conference match against the Pacific University (OR) Boxers on Thursday, September 8, at 7 p.m.
