For the second-straight night, the University of Redlands men's soccer team competed through two extra periods and recorded a tie, with Sunday's decision coming against the in-region Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz.  In an evenly-matched battle, the teams settled for a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes of action on Farquhar Field.

The Bulldogs had limited chances in the early part of the contest, until a timely corner kick came just minutes after Santa Cruz replaced five players on the field.  In the 31st minute, sophomore midfielder Vidal Ornelas (Corona, CA) found sophomore forward Alexander Knox (Kirkland, WA) in front of the goal, where Knox fired off his third goal in three games to put Redlands ahead.

Although UCSC answered back with a barrage of offensive opportunities to finish out the half, the Bulldogs' defensive unit of freshman Spencer Scott (Portland, OR), sophomore Keoni Yates (Kailua-Kona, HI), and junior Tom Elsea (Mission Viejo, CA) provided great protection for sophomore goalkeeper Josh Haskill (Lakewood, CA), who was forced to make only one save in the first 45 minutes.

During the second half, Santa Cruz elevated its offensive pressure on the Bulldogs, earning three of its four second-half corner kicks in the first 15 minutes of the frame.  The third one proved to be the charm, as a second-chance opportunity off of a corner kick was just enough for the Banana Slugs to earn the equalizer in the 59th minute.

Thanks to Haskill, the Banana Slugs stayed off the board for the rest of the game, as he recorded five of his six saves during the second half.  The Maroon and Gray worked to find the break-through chance but came up empty, resulting in its second overtime game in as many days.

During the extra periods, Redlands dominated the offensive side of the ball, racking up four shots while holding the visitors to zero in the final 20 minutes.  The Bulldogs also registered three corner kicks in the overtime frames, but ended the game in a 1-1 tie.

Overall, Redlands out-shot the visitors by a slight 17-15 margin and earned one more corner kick on the night than the visitors with six.  Sophomore forward Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR) fired off seven shots, including five on frame.  Sophomore midfielder Casey ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) and freshman forward Kayvon Parsa (West Hills, CA) supplied three shots apiece.

Haskill played his first complete game of the season, notching the tie after a 110-minute effort.

Redlands (5-2-2) welcomes the Whittier College Poets to Farquhar Field on Wednesday, September 30, for a 7 p.m. Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown.
