The top-seeded University of Redlands men's soccer team competed in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament Championship against the second-seeded Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Sagehens on Saturday in a heated third battle between the familiar foes.  Unable to gather any offensive rhythm, the Bulldogs succumbed to the visiting squad by a score of 0-1.  With the result, Pomona-Pitzer (14-5-2) earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championships.

The Sagehens got on the board in the 13th minute when Avery Raimondo volleyed a cross by Voja Maric right past the oncoming Bulldog goalkeeper.

Despite the early deficit, the Bulldogs gathered multiple scoring attempts in the second half of the contest, scattering six attempts throughout the final 45 minutes.

Late in the game, Redlands worked to find the equalizer and force overtime by applying great pressure in the Sagehens' defensive third of the field.  Freshman midfielder Casey ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) registered multiple throw-ins to spark some offensive fire by tossing the ball directly into the goalkeeper's box. One such opportunity located a leaping sophomore defender Tom Elsea (Mission Viejo, CA), who connected on a header that missed just high.

Another late-game chance saw senior defender Nico Johnson (Las Vegas, NV) try his foot at a lob-shot toward the high post but missed by inches.

Time ran out on the Bulldogs' effort to find the back of the net, resulting in the difficult loss to Pomona-Pitzer.

Freshman goalkeeper Josh Haskill (Lakewood, CA) provided an admirable effort for the Maroon and Gray, hauling in five saves during a full-game performance.

Redlands (13-9) now must wait and hope to gain an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Championships, which will be announced on Monday, November 10, during the 10:30 a.m. selection show on NCAA Live at www.ncaa.com.
