The University of Redlands men's soccer team traveled to Whittier College on Wednesday night for an important Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown against the Poets.  The Bulldogs dominated the Poets on their offensive third of the field, racking up nearly three times as many shots and more than four times as many corner kicks as Whittier.  Unfortunately for Redlands, the host team found the break-through netter in the 82nd minute, resulting in the difficult road-loss.

Despite firing off 21 shots, including 12 attempts on goal, the Maroon and Gray failed to put up a score for the first time in four contests.  Senior forward Matej Kustura (Las Vegas, NV) led the offensive effort with five shots, while freshman midfielder Sergio Valencia (San Jose, CA) uncorked three attempts on frame.  Senior forward Charles Izydorek (Redlands, CA) accounted for four shots in the loss.

Redlands also mustered multiple corner kicks, highlighted by three in a three-minute span during each of the halves.

Following the Poets' score, the Bulldogs stepped up the offensive pressure by uncorking five shots in the final nine minutes.  Freshman midfielder Casey ChubbFertal's (Portland, OR) cannon was the Bulldogs' best opportunity to tie it up, but the shot bounced off the post.

The intense game included 27 fouls, 17 of which were called against the Poets.

The Bulldogs (5-6, 4-3 SCIAC) look to rebound when they travel to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday for a 7 p.m. SCIAC match with the Stags.
