Following a slight weather delay, the University of Redlands men's soccer team continued its East-Coast road-trip on Saturday by facing the Gettysburg College (PA) Bullets in a non-conference match-up at Clark Field. Despite the Bulldogs' strong defensive play and a solid offensive assault, a lone Gettysburg goal resulted in the Maroon and Gray's 0-1 loss.

The Bulldogs battled it out in an immediate dogfight, as the Bullets tested the U of R defense early in the game. Senior defender Nico Johnson (Las Vegas, NV), freshman defender Keoni Yates (Kailua-Kona, HI), and sophomore defender Tom Elsea (Mission Viejo, CA) were not fazed, as the defensive crew worked relentlessly to deny multiple scoring opportunities and preserve the scoreless tie.

However, the Bullets found the back of the net after a corner kick, leaving the U of R with an early deficit to overcome.

Freshman forward Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR) and senior forward Matej Kustura (Las Vegas, NV) worked the field artistically for the majority of the first half in an effort to create an offensive spark for the Bulldogs. Unfortunately, Redlands struggled to capitalize upon these chances in the first half.

The second half brought more scoring opportunities for the Bulldogs, with senior forward Charles Izydorek (Redlands, CA) and freshman midfielder Casey ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) firing off two shots in the frame. Fellow junior midfielder Peter Marsden (Woodside, CA) followed suit, as he blasted off two shots of his own.

The Bulldog defense continued to hold strong, as Gettysburg failed to score for the remainder of the contest.

Freshman goalkeeper Josh Haskill (Lakewood, CA) played the entire game in his third start of his young career and finished with two saves.

Redlands recorded 10 shots on the night, including three on frame.

The Bulldogs (1-3) return home to the friendly confines of Farquhar Field on Wednesday, September 10, when they open Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition against the University of La Verne Leopards at 7 p.m.
