Redlands Men's Soccer Falls in Overtime to Chapman, 3-4

The University of Redlands men's soccer team scored three goals on Saturday afternoon, but it was not enough as the Bulldogs fell in overtime to Chapman University, 3-4.  With the defeat, the Maroon and Gray now has a 1-2 record on the road in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action.

The Panthers got on the board first, scoring goals in the 25th and 30th minutes.  The Bulldogs responded immediately, however, and cut the deficit in half in the 35th minute of play when senior midfielder Jon Frisby (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) ripped a left-footed shot into the back of the net from 18 yards out.  For Frisby, it was his second goal on the season.

Seven minutes later, Bulldog freshman midfielder Colin Zaccagnio (Phoenix, AZ) got on the end of a pass from junior midfielder Grahame Fitz (Menlo Park, CA) and slotted the ball into the bottom-right corner of the goal to level the game at 2-2.  The goal was Zaccagnio's first-career score while donning a Bulldog uniform.

The Maroon and Gray continued to ride its momentum into the second stanza, and scored first to take its first lead of the match.  In the 55th minute, junior midfielder Matej Kustura (Las Vegas, NV) received a pass from junior forward Charles Izydorek (Redlands, CA) near the top of the 18-yard box.  With one move, he pushed the ball past the defender and blasted a shot with his right foot past the Panther goalkeeper to make it 3-2 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Chapman would equalize in regulation, however, tallying its third goal of the contest in the 74th minute.  During the final 15 minutes, neither team struck again, sending the match to overtime for the second time of the week for both sides.  The U of R did score a goal in regulation when Izydorek got behind the Panther defense, but he was deemed offside on the play, negating the score.

The Bulldogs notched a couple of close chances in the extra period, but could not find the game-winner.  The Panthers eventually registered the all-important golden goal in the ninth minute of the first overtime, ending the high-scoring affair.

Izydorek tallied a team-high four shots for the Bulldogs, while senior forward Evan Keny-Guyer (Portland, OR) provided three on the afternoon.

Overall, Chapman (4-4-1, 2-3-1 SCIAC) held a shot advantage over Redlands, 23-13.

In the loss, U of R senior goalkeeper Andreas Silva (San Jose, CA) racked up eight saves.

Redlands (4-2-0, 4-2-0 SCIAC) returns to action on Monday evening when it hosts Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at Farquhar Field.  Kickoff in this important SCIAC showdown is set for 7 p.m.
