Junior forward Charles Izydorek (Redlands, CA) scored a goal in each half on Saturday evening to lead the Redlands men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over the University of La Verne.  In front of 497 fans at Farquhar Field, the Bulldogs remained undefeated and moved into a tie for first place in the standings early in the 2013 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) campaign.

The U of R took the early lead when junior midfielder Matej Kustura (Las Vegas, NV) found Izydorek with a beautiful cross in the 8th minute of play.  Izydorek rose above the Leopards' defense and buried the header into the back of the net.

La Verne tied the game in the 32nd minute when senior midfielder Joshua Hill (Chino, CA) scored from 25 yards out.

At the half, the two sides remained tied at 1-1.  The Leopards held a slight shot advantage at the break, 9-5, and registered three corners to just one for the Bulldogs.

In the second stanza, the U of R came out flying and applied pressure from the start.  Despite multiple shots and opportunities for the Maroon and Gray, the squad could not find the go-ahead goal.  In the 73rd minute, Bulldog senior midfielder Will Walker (Folsom, CA) ripped a shot from outside the box and beat the keeper, but it pinged off the left post, keeping the score level at 1-1.

Then, in the 85th minute, Kustura penetrated the La Verne midfield and played a looping ball over the top of the Leopards' defense to Redlands senior forward Evan Keny-Guyer (Portland, OR).  Keny-Guyer calmly chested the ball to the oncoming Izydorek who curled his shot into the right side of the goal to put the Bulldogs up, 2-1.  For Izydorek, it was his third goal in two games.

During the exciting second half, the Maroon and Gray outshot La Verne, 14-5, and for the game registered a shot advantage of 19-14.  In addition the Bulldogs tallied six corner kicks to just four for the Leopards.

On the night, Izydorek registered nine shots for the U of R, while Walker notched four and Kustura contributed three.
