The No. 21 University of Redlands men's soccer team kept the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) regular-season championship right at home by clinching the 2011 title with a 6-2 trouncing of Occidental College on Wednesday at Farquhar Field. With the help of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges' loss earlier tonight, Redlands remains undefeated and out of reach in SCIAC competition while securing the program's 11th overall title.

The Maroon and Gray's offense headlined the team's performance as it put up 31 shots and registered its third straight game with six or more goals.

Senior forward Jamie Griffin (Seattle, WA) led the Redlands attack by posting the first score of the game during the sixth minute. Senior forward Cody Carlson (Burbank, CA) set up his classmate for his fourth assist of the season.

However, Oxy answered immediately, as junior forward Ben Murray (Sagle, ID) found the back of the net just over two-and-a-half minutes later.

Redlands responded when the freshman Las Vegas duo of midfielder Matej Kustura and Nico Johnson finished out the first half by recording back-to-back netters within a two-minute span. Kustura struck a sweet one-timer from about 25 yards out at the 36:33-mark, while Johnson buried his first collegiate netter from midfield.

The Tigers refused to go down without a fight as Murray beat a Bulldog defender for a second time, decreasing Redlands' lead to just one in the 60th minute.

Momentum changed drastically after Oxy's second goal, as the Maroon and Gray fired off three unanswered goals to finish out the game. Junior midfielder Evan Keny-Guyer (Portland, OR), sophomore midfielder Will Walker (Folsom, CA) and freshman forward Charles Izydorek (Redlands, CA) recorded scores in the 61st, 79th and 87th minute, respectively.

The Bulldogs' last line of defense, sophomore goalkeeper Andreas Silva (San Jose, CA), earned his 14th win of the 2011 campaign and stopped six shots in the process.

Overall, Redlands has now out-scored its opponents, 62-11, and has recorded 25 more goals than the next closest conference foe.

Redlands (14-3-0, 11-0-0) takes on the Caltech Beavers on Saturday with a 1 p.m. kickoff at Farquhar Field.  In addition, the team looks forward to celebrating its senior class with a short pre-game ceremony.
