Redlands Men’s Soccer Crushes Cal Lutheran for Seventh Straight Victory

The University of Redlands men's soccer team notched its fourth consecutive, complete-game shutout on Sunday afternoon, taking down conference opponent Cal Lutheran University by a score of 4-0 in Thousand Oaks. With a 27-2 scoring margin in their last seven contests, the Bulldogs continue their recent hot streak while staying undefeated in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action.

After receiving junior defender Nick Eary's (Las Vegas, NV) one-touch pass, sophomore midfielder Pat Roraff (Redlands, CA) found the back of the net in the 10th minute for the early lead. Roraff has already tied his career-high with his fourth goal, while Eary dished out his third assist of the 2011 campaign.

Redlands connected on its second score just 8:19 into the second half as senior forward Jamie Griffin (Seattle, WA) put a header just inside the back post. Junior forward Alex Laughton (Pleasanton, CA) set up the play when he recorded his second assist of the season with a nice cross to Griffin.

Rookie forward Charles Izydorek (Redlands, CA) sealed the deal for the Bulldogs by tallying two late goals to put away the Kingsmen for good. At the 71:21-mark, Laughton took advantage of a counter-attack opportunity and fed Izydorek for his second assist of the night. Just a little more than seven minutes later, the freshman ripped his fifth netter of the season, capping off the Bulldogs' 4-0 victory. Eary landed on the stat sheet once again when he dished out a pass to Izydorek near the penalty box.

Sophomore goalkeeper Andreas Silva (San Jose, CA) picked up the victory by stopping six shots on goal, while senior back-up Jason Smuckler (Woodland Hills, CA) finished out a scoreless 10:47 for the Maroon and Gray.

The Bulldogs (9-3-0, 6-0-0) host the Leopards of the University of La Verne on Wednesday at 7 p.m. under the lights of Farquhar Field.
