Second-Half Struggles Lead to UR Men’s Soccer Loss to No. 5 Trinity

The University of Redlands men's soccer team squared off against the West Region's top squad, No. 5 Trinity University, in San Antonio, TX, earlier today, but suffered a difficult 1-4 loss to the Tigers. The Bulldogs stayed stride for stride with the Tigers through the first half, resulting in a 1-1 halftime score. However, Trinity (4-0-2) uncorked an impressive offensive attack in the final 45 minutes that proved too much for the Maroon and Gray.

Trinity's Zach Garcia posted a netter in the 14th minute off of an assist by senior forward Cameron Hogsett (McKinney, TX) to initiate the scoring.

Redlands responded less than four minutes later when the dangerous senior forward combo of captain Cody Carlson (Burbank, CA) and Jamie Griffin (Seattle, WA) joined forces to tie it up.

Unfortunately, the Bulldogs went quiet during the second stanza while the Tigers fired off two goals in a span of less than 11 minutes before wrapping up the game with another netter with 7:46 left in the contest.

The Bulldogs created only nine scoring chances, compared to Trinity's 15 shots. Freshman midfielder Matej Kustura (Las Vegas, NV) led the Maroon and Gray by taking three shots off of the bench.

Redlands (2-3) strives to rebound when it faces Southwestern University (TX) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. CT in San Antonio, TX.
