Redlands Men’s Soccer Rolls Over La Verne in 4-0 Win

After a slow start, the University of Redlands men's soccer team posted four unanswered goals in the second half against the University of La Verne on Saturday afternoon at Farquhar Field, keeping its conference unbeaten streak alive for 2010. The Bulldogs have gone 3-0-1 in their last four SCIAC contests, outscoring their opponents by a 12-1 margin.

After 57 minutes of scoreless action, senior captain midfielder John Brookover (Boise, ID) notched his second score in the last four conference matches as fellow captain junior forward Cody Carlson (Burbank, CA) tossed him a nice through-ball.

Sophomore defender Jensen Brehm (Bellevue, WA) enjoyed an impressive day as he collected his first and second career goals, pushing the Bulldogs up by a score of 3-0. Freshman defender Richie Marquez (Pomona, CA) and sophomore forward Alex Laughton (Pleasanton, CA) provided the assists on Brehm's goals in the 67th and 72nd minutes, respectively.

Sealing the victory, freshman midfielder Tim Berggren (Salt Lake City, UT) dished out his third conference assist when he connected with freshman midfielder Pat Roraff (Redlands, CA), who buried the ball to the near post at the 88th minute for his first Bulldog goal.

Freshman Andreas Silva (San Jose, CA), and juniors Jason Smuckler (Woodland Hills, CA) and Charles Pratt IV (Phoenix, AZ) shared time between the pipes, combining to record the Bulldogs' fifth shutout win on the season.

Redlands out-shot the Leopards, 17-14, and held a clear advantage of on-goal opportunities with a 7-3 margin. The Maroon and Gray also racked up a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks.

The Bulldogs (7-1-2, 6-0-2 SCIAC) next kick off against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Wednesday at 7 p.m. on Farquhar Field.
