Senior midfielder Steve Chenes (Las Vegas, NV) capitalized on
two corner kick opportunities, scoring two goals in a 3-0
University of Redlands win over Whittier College in
Whittier on Sept. 27.
After a quiet first half, the Bulldogs tacked on all three goals in
the second 45 minutes of play. Chenes struck first with a goal in
the 51st minute of play, while senior midfielder Bryan Fakkema (Oak
Harbor, WA) earned the assist.
Capitalizing on his only scoring opportunity of the game, junior
midfielder Cale Rodriguez (Norwalk, CA) kicked in the second goal
of the game 12 minutes later to give the Redlands the 2-0 edge.
Chenes closed out scoring in the 83rd minute, taking a Rodriguez
pass to the back of the net.
Junior goalkeeper Evan Hobson (San Diego, CA) played the full 90
minutes in net, amassing two saves and recording the shutout.
Paul Stepler-Camp manned the net for the entirety of the match for
the Poets, making three saves and allowing all three goals.
The Bulldogs outshot the Poets by a 15-5 margin, and Redlands won
the corner kick battle as well, 5-1.
Redlands (4-4-1, 3-0-1 SCIAC) hosts Occidental College on
Wednesday, Oct. 1, taking on the Tigers at 4 p.m.
