A Geoff Smith goal off of a header in the second half propelled
the Ohio Northern University men’s soccer team past the
University of Redlands on Sept. 6 by a 2-1 final.
The Polar Bears kicked off scoring in the 17th minute when Dan
Schade scored off of a direct kick. Redlands responded later on in
the first half when senior forward Ross Schunk (Portland, OR)
scored from the top of the box unassisted.
Junior goalkeeper Evan Hobson (San Diego, CA) played the first
half, and freshman goalkeeper Jason Smuckler (Woodland Hills, CA)
took over for the second half of play. Smuckler tallied the lone
Bulldog save of the game.
The Bulldogs outshot Ohio Northern by a comfortable 29-13 margin.
Polar Bear goalkeeper Aaron Collins picked up the win, saving seven
shots.
Redlands travels to non-conference Chapman University on Wednesday,
Sept. 10 at 5 p.m.
