No. 24 Redlands Men's Golf Takes Second at SCIAC No. 1

With three top-five finishes, the University of Redlands men's golf team took second at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) No. 1 Tournament at the Tukwet Canyon Champions Course in Beaumont. Through 36 holes, the Bulldogs combined for a score of 598.

Senior Diego Cortes (Santiago, Chile) led the Maroon and Gray with a total of 147. He stayed consistent over both days, finishing with a 74 in round one and a 73 in round two. Cortes impressed with 23 pars, which was second in the field. He showcased his long game with a -3 on par-five holes and six birdies.

In a tie for fifth place, first-year Joshua Fambro (Taos, NM) (72-76) and sophomore Kyle Sharp (Austin, TX) (70-78) joined Cortes in the top five with total scores of 148. Fambro performed particularly well on par four holes with a 4.10 average to rank third. He also recorded seven birdies and 21 pars. Sharp enjoyed a solid tournament scoring a five-under on par five's and a two-under on par three's to pace the competition.

Senior Jake Hollander (Peterborough, NH) signed his scorecard in a four-way tie for 17th with a score of 156 (77-79). He ended the tournament right behind Cortes in third with 22 pars. Seniors Cameron Cooper (Seattle, WA) and Dylan Merchant (Ellsworth, WI) retired to the clubhouse one stroke behind in a four-way tie for 21st with a final tally of 157. Both Cooper and Merchant finished with 19 pars.

Redlands looks forward to competing in the 21st Annual Jekyll Island Invitational in Jekyll Island, Georgia from Friday, March 20, to Sunday, March 22.
