Sophomore Jake Hollander's Medalist Honor Propels Redlands to Third Place at SCIAC Men's Golf Championships

On the heels of sophomore Jake Hollander's (Peterborough, NH) medalist honor, the No. 23 University of Redlands men's golf team finished the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship Tournament with a 54-hole total of 877 for third place.

After shooting a 71 on Sunday, Hollander impressed with a tournament-low 67 on Monday, which propelled him into first place to start the final round. With consistency and determination, he held onto the lead with Tuesday's 72, with his winning putt taking a trip around the rim before falling into the cup on the 18th hole. Overall, he registered 14 birdies and 33 pars while recording a minus-seven score of 4.42 on the par fives to rank second in the event. He also shot a minus-two score of 2.83 on the par-three holes to sit third among the field.

With the tournament's best par-four score of 3.97, sophomore Cameron Cooper (Seattle, WA) finished third at the SCIAC Championships by shooting a 216 over three rounds. He bettered his total each day, going from 73 to 72 to 71. He led the field with 41 pars and ranked among the top 20 in par-three scoring.

Junior Alex Stroes (San Marcos, CA) battled through a rough final day to finish in a tie for 17th with a 223, as his best round of the tournament came on Monday when he fired off a 71. Overall, he registered 10 birdies and shot minus one for an average of 2.92 on the par threes.

Junior Cade Lawson (Lake Oswego, OR) finished in a tie for 32nd with a total of 229, which included eight birdies. He also tallied a par-three score of 3.08 to rank among the top 20.

Senior George Galanis (Chicago, IL) and sophomore Dylan Merchant (Ellsworth, WI) completed the tournament with scores of 235 and 237, respectively. Merchant shot a 76 to open the competition en route to earning 33 pars over the three days, while Galanis recorded his best round on Monday with a 75.

With the seven-round aggregate scoring, the Bulldogs also take third place in the final conference standings with a score of 2,059 strokes.

Redlands must await the NCAA's announcement, which will take place on May 7, to learn of possible postseason opportunities.
