With senior John McCord (Oakland, CA) leading the charge, the No. 17/18 University of Redlands men's golf team remains in the hunt for the 2016 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) title after day two of the three-day championships at Oak Valley Golf Course in Beaumont. The Bulldogs slipped into second place in the tournament standings with today's round of 305 for a two-day total of 591, which is one stroke off of the leaders from No. 11 Cal Lutheran University.
McCord remains in first place on the individual leaderboard with a 36-hole score of 138 (65-73) as one of three players still under par at the tournament. He has a five-stroke lead on a pair of second-place competitors.
Freshman Alex Stroes (San Marcos, CA) maintained his top-10 status with today's round of 75, which moved him into a tie for ninth at 149 (74-75).
Sophomore George Galanis (Glencoe, IL) climbed three spots on the player leaderboard into 15th-place by shooting a 75 for a two-round score of 151.
Freshmen Rowan Foxley (Arlington, WA), Travis Winn (Salinas, CA), and Cade Lawson (Lake Oswego, OR) each battled a tough day on the course that resulted in a drop in the individual standings. Foxley is now tied for 19th at 153 (71-82), while Winn sits tied-for-30th with a two-day total of 159 (76-83). Lawson slid into a tie for 35th after shooting 84 on Monday for a 36-hole score of 162 (78-84).
With today's results combined with the previous SCIAC rounds, the Bulldogs fell into third place in the overall team standings with a 108-hole total of 1,816, but stays within striking distance of the leaders from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. The Bulldogs are nine strokes behind the Stags (1807) and four strokes off of second-place Cal Lutheran (1812).
Redlands returns to action on Tuesday for the final day of the SCIAC Championships, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at Oak Valley Golf Course.
