Holden Finishes Second to Lead Bulldog Men's Golf to Strong Showing at CSUSB Coyote Classic

The top-ranked University of Redlands men's golf team competed in the Cal State University San Bernardino Coyote Classic at Arrowhead Country Club on Monday and Tuesday, with junior Bobby Holden (Simi Valley, CA) leading the Bulldogs to a sixth-place effort with his runner-up finish. While taking on NAIA and NCAA Division II foes, Redlands scored 885 (286-291-308) to land in front of 11 of the 17 teams in the field.

Holden fired off impressive rounds of 72, 67, and 71, to finish with a combined score of 210, which placed him just one stroke behind the medalist. He dominated the field in par fours, leading the tournament with an average score of 3.97. Holden also took control of the par fives with an average of 4.44.

In addition, senior swinger Jeremy Gomberg (Mountain View, CA) finished tied for 26th in the tournament with a three-round total of 222 (70-74-78). Sophomore standout John McCord (Oakland, CA) finished third among the Bulldogs with a combined score of 223 (72-72-79). Finally, seniors Mike Caston Jr. (Escondido, CA) and Nick Johnson (La Jolla, CA) completed the tournament with scores of 232 and 239, respectively.

Redlands travels to Las Vegas on March 2-3 for the Las Vegas Desert Classic, which takes place at the Pauite Golf Club.
